Arguably the best chicken Tikka we have tasted thus far anywhere in the World...but thats TravelX's opinion. Nestled away in busy Church Street Mayfair lies a Pakistani restaurant called Al Hamra. There are many restaurants like these in the Fordsburg/Mayfair Area. Outside the restaurant there is a Chicken Tikka Barbque or Braai as it is known here in South Africa. And the Chicken Tikka is amazing.

Now the man that handles the preparation of this delicious chicken is Faaiz from Pakistan. He has been doing this for the past 30 years and learnt his trade in Pakistan and since brought it to South Africa.
Now the experience doesn't end there. Theres something amazing about ordering Chicken Tikka here. Faaiz does not use a paper,pen nor calculator. I mean there are groups of people ordering. Sometimes you stand there thinking "Does he know what I said.?" At the end he hands you your order as you said it to him earlier with the correct change as well. Truely something to experience.

CLASH OF THE TITANS

These dramatic pictures show a clash of the titans as a protective elephant mum and a ferocious crocodile get in an epic tug of war in Zambia.

The female elephant and her baby were drinking from the Luangwa River in the South Luangwa National Park when they were attacked.
Leaping out of the murky waters a vicious crocodile bit down on the female's trunk.

The elephant was brought to her knees as the crocodile thrashed around

Brought down on her hind legs, the elephant didn't give up and turned away from the water, despite the predator clamped down on her trunk.

Using incredible strength the female managed to shake off the croc after walking away from the water.

She survived the attack along with her baby, despite a second scare when the baby tripped as the pair ran away

The elephant managed to turn away from the water even the croc was trying to pull her in

With her baby safely on the far side, the mum stepped away from the water with the croc still clamped on

The mighty elephant dragged the crocodile all the way out of the water as she walked away

They were seen feeding from the river later in the day.

South Luangwa National Park is well-known for its mighty elephant herds of up to 70 individuals.

Measuring 9000 square kilometers, the park has 60 animal species including baboons, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, leopards, lions and hippopotamus.

Late breakfast for the lads

On Sunday morning at 3am I awoke from my sleep in a fright. That blood curdling shreiky Heyena cry echoed throughout the camp.It felt like it was right next to my tent.Then I heard scratching on the door. I scram Oz..No reply.Then I said Naeem can you hear that. He said Yes, It want quiet for a while andI dozed off again. The night befor we planned to leave at seven.That meant 2 hours more sleep. We woke up,packed the gear,had breakfast and set off for the long journey South at about 7.30 am. As we left Tambotti, a feeling of sadness crept in.The reality struck that we were now leaving our home for three days and the Kruger National Park.It was Sunday, the weather was spectecular and we had a long journey. As we made our way South in teh crisp morning air Tint stopped the vehicle.I loved it when he does that. It means theres something in the area. After 4 days in the Bush you can see teh look on his face when something is about to happen. Thats teh beauty if the bush. He leaned over and picked up something on the side of the road.Again how he seen it I cannot understand. It was a piece of fur and oh yes it was fresh,There was still blood on it.Which meant something had been killed minutes ago and was running through this bush and accross this road.

What could this be?

As we pressed on we came across Hippo and crocodile at a waterhole,elephant,Rhino and Bufallo.We had to press on as we had to be at Malelani gate beore 6pm. We took a dirt road and about a km in, a beautiful sighting of a Leopard lounging in a tree.Fantastic.Again Tiny picked it up.

As we marvelled at the Leopard for a while we pressed on.Got on to the main road and exactly what we have been waiting for........Lions close up.Right next to the vehicle.We have seen many Lions on the trip but not this close.It was fantastic.They just lay there taking shelter from the sun under a small tree. This Lion epitomised the raw beauty of the Kruger National Park.

After watching the Lions the thought of leaving this place became even more depressing. Azee kept on mentioning Orpen Dam. He regarded it as his favourite place in the Kruger.Ofcourse we had to stop and check this place out. It was beautiful indeed.And so tranquil.Unfortunately time was not on our side and we had to press on. We could have just sat there the whole day.

We planned to have Lunch at a Look out spot near Orpen Dam.It was a braai and picnic facility that Overlooked a beautiful dam. Thats where we headed.We took out our Skottel braai and teh menu was sausages ,chicken and one 500g T Bone.The view while we were having lunch was spectecular.As we had lunch we watched a herd of Elephants splashing in the water and eventually crossing

Lunch went down well.We packed up and were on route to Lower Sabie. We came across a Lazy Rhino and then something I have never seen before in all my trips to the Kruger Park. A Tornado or a twister in the distance. The Kruger never ever fails to disappoint.

After those remarkable sightings we went to Lower Sabie Camp. What a beautiful camp. And the Sabie River breathtaking. The Lower Sabie area is also renouned for its Cheetah spottings.

You can see Naeem in the back sitting almost on Ozez lap. Anyway with the cobra slithering into the bush we entered Berg-en Daal camp. Had our last smoke watching an elephant and watched the Sun slipping away. We met Tinys Ranger OB ,Shared some stories. Got into Azees car and exited Malelane gate.We reached Malelane where we met Frank,left the Safari Vehicle and headed to Nelspruit.

We ate at Steers in Nelspruit. The sounds of the Bush were replaced by the noise of cars and people.Yes our Safari was Over.It was a long three hour drive home

Performing skits, stand-up comedy and live music, the cast of Chops, Choons and Spano Tunes take you to good ol’ Park Rynie for a real boys night out … where … if it itches, you can scratch it… Join the cast for fun, laughter and sing-a-long tunes that will leave you begging for more as the guys spend an evening of moans, groans and tunes And for this stag night - ladies… you’re also invited.
This is not some dreamy “pre-wedding journey” where men “discover” themselves. This is real men telling you about men LIKE IT IS! The guys are camping out for a stag weekend at Park Rynie. Unlike their female counterparts at a hen-party, they don’t challenge social norms or debate fashion. Away from their wives and girlfriends, all they do is sit back, let their stomachs out, scratch, fart, and enjoy Chops, Choons and Span of Tunes.

The increasing inebriation as the weekend progresses allows the guys to reveal their views on the funny side of life, women and marriage. Girls – this play is not only about men and sex. It’s also about men not getting enough of sex!!! All the way its guy-talk truthfully uttered in jest.

Chops, Choons and Span of Tunes is a laugh-a-minute comedy combining both skit and stand-up routines. The guys also try their luck at a talent contest where they comically mix bollywood/zollywood skits. For the guys – this is a camping trip never to be missed. And to the girls – you’ll definitely want to be a fly on this gazebo!

This all-guy cast directed by Kumseela Naidoo stars, Senzo Mthethwa, Koobeshan Naidoo, Henry Ramkissoon, Pranesh Maharaj and Ravi Subramoney. This Dingaling Production conceived by Yugan Naidoo.

KRUGER PARK DIARY DAY 4

Judging by the clouds Last night Day 3 was fore casted as sunny.Finally the cold was over and we would see the glorious sunrise in the Kruger.The lads were knackered including myself.Again we were scheduled to wake up at 5am. I heard some noises next to my tent at 3am.Dustbins falling.When we awoke we saw the damage done by the honey badger.Ruffling dust bins and foraging for food.

As we boarded the Safari vehicle we took our blankets in case and errr to brave the early morning cold he he.We were on our way.North Again,Lunch at Timbevati only this time we took a different Dirt Road.

As the sun broke through the sky's we seen the splendour of the Kruger Park at sunrise.Truly breathtaking.The pictures will speak for itself

We stopped over at a look out point over looking a dried up river bed to have our breakfast. Enrista coffee and choc chip cookies and strawberry whirls.Went down.As Tiny got off the vehicle low and behold..A pride of 13 lions walking up the river bed.Fantastic.As we sipped our coffee we watched them disappear from the river bed into the brush.

As we headed toward Satara for our routine early morning vehicle check we came across another carcass.This was fresh, but smaller.The calf from yesterday was felled by the Lions.That's the wild. The weak suffer whilst the strong survive.

A few 100m away the Hyenas began scavenging on the Buffalo carcass from the day before. I really don’t like Hyenas.They are eerie looking,make eerie noises at night and when they are in packs they are ruthless.Their jaws are regarded as the most powerfull…

We pulled into Satara,sorted our vehicle out and headed off again.

We came across yet another Buffalo.This time another form of Scavengers set in. Vultures were feasting on the carcass.

As the sun shone we drove through Mopani bush,relaxed and caught a breather at a dry river bank and were due to have an early lunch. On our way we saw elephants and Lions Again.Lazing around before seeking shade in the Bush. Lions twice in one day.That was a bonus

Lunch comprised of chicken burgers and sausages.The sounds of Timbevati and well lets say we had lunch with the resident impalas.

We headed back North and seen a family of Giraffe that just stared at us. We stared back and had a nice chilled drive all the way down toward Orpen.

Birds,sunshine, zebra and the sounds were all too rewarding.
All of a sudden Tiny switched off the vehicle and said Quiet.Theres Danger.He said look on your left.Probably leopard.But theres something in the Bush.At this point we were the only vehicle.All was quiet.I said Tiny how do you know.He said he had picked up the Franklin birds warning call in the Bush.We looked and looked but couldn’t find a thing.All of a sudden Tiny said here is the danger.about ten meters on the left of the vehicle was a Boomslnag snake curled in a tree.Thats why the Franklin made a noise and thats how Tiny picked it up.Amazing. You could have never seen this with the naked eye.Only he could driving at 40 kmph

We headed back to our camp.Took some pics of our resident vultures in the tree above next to our tent. The lads relaxed and of course we had Enrista coffee.

Myself ,Oz and Tiny were due to take a sunset drive to Orpen.The other lads rested and we set off into the sunset.Serviced our vehicle for the next day and checked out Orpen Camp.
Then it was back to Tamboti and of course getting the fire cracking.The menu was Chakalaka,Chicken wings on which I was iniciated and got to like and 500 g T bone steak for each guy.We were joined for a while by our neighbours from Nigel, We shared stories and ate like you cant believe.

Had our coffee and cigars and performed our ritual.We said that wed sleep a bit pack up the gear and leave at seven South to Malelane.As we slept sadness set in with tiredness.As I brushed my teeth and checked my bed for scorpions and snakes it dawned on me that this was our last night

KRUGER PARK DIARY DAY 3

We were up at 5:am on Friday Morning and we honestly didn't brace ourselves of what to expect.This was freakish weather.It was early in the morning and it was freaking cold and rainy.It was raining so hard that we had to pull down the shield of the Safari Vehicle to avoid being pelted by the stinging rain. We drove on to Satara camp and hoped that the rain would stop and we hoped that we would be graced by the hot Sun.But nothing doing.We reached Satara and the boys actually had to stock up at the local store on warm clothing.That's how cold it was.And to be honest the weather had no inclination of actually getting better.But this was a Safari and we were ready to take whatever was going to come our way.

We regrouped,the boys got their warm clothing and we set off further North to Timbavati where we were scheduled to have lunch. On our way we came across a male Lion about 100m off the road next to a Buffalo Kill.He seemed to be guarding it. Earlier on we passed a massive herd of Buffalo and some Rhino

We decided to take a dirt road and all of a sudden Tiny stopped the vehicle.We were all surprised as there was nothing in front or on the side of us.He switched off the vehicle and then we heard this hissing sound.No it wasn't a snake.We looked down at Mata bile Hissing Ants crossing the road.Now this was a spot and an amazing sight as well.This is the beauty of the Safari Vehicle

These ants were actually making a hissing sound.We let the Ants pass and headed on toward Timbavati.We stopped at a bird hide overlooking a river and got some awesome pictures and sat alongside the many bird watchers and photographers that were there

We reached Timbavati Camp at about noon.Its a rest cap where you can get off at your own risk.There are always people coming in and out so its always busy.It was still cold and windy.We got our Skottle braai, threw on some Seekh keebaabs and Wors and Lunch with the sounds of nature in the cold went down rather well.We were energised, a bit warm and heading back down toward the Camp

On we went as the clouds became thicker and the wind stronger.No sun on our second day again.As we approached Satara camp,just barely 200 meters from the camp fence and 100 meters from the road we saw our first kill. A pride of Lions brought down a Buffalo and were feasting on the carcass behind the tree.We took out our Binos and tried to see what we can

We watched them for a few minutes but couldn't really see much behind the tree.We left the kill and a mere 100m away we saw a Buffalo calf running madly and bumping into cars etc.It looked lost.This was the calf of the female Buffalo or mother that the Lions brought down.This was nature and the calf looked lost.It had strayed from the heard and was alone.Would the Lions or other predators take advantage of this

As we left the scenes of blood and death in the wild we came across something spectacular.Another kill but this one alot more different. An Eagle was perched in the tree above and was feasting on a Guinea foul.And we saw the whole thing. Amazing. Two kills in the space of a few hours

It was still cold and we reached camp a bit early because of the weather. We put on our shorts and indulged in some piping hot showers to thore out. The cold weather though brought us some amazing sights.It was relaxation time and we bought firewood to keep the fire burning for a long while as we got ready for our braai.Chops and sausages were sizzling on the braai as we chatted again in the quiet of the surrounding Bushveld.We heard the sounds of the night drone away as we hit the sack for an early morning on Saturday, after our ritual of 15 minutes quiet and sipping Enrista coffee as we heard the Lions roar,the crying of the hyenas and the chattering of the baboons

DAY TWO IN PICTURES

KRUGER PARK DIARY DAY 2

We awoke on Day 2 full of excitement.15 minutes away from Malelane gate.We got up,got ready, loaded the Safari Vehicle.Put our gear into black plastic packets and placed it on the back of the Safari Vehicle.We were good to go.Azee,Myself,Faaiz Oz,Nelson,Naeem & Tiny.That was the crew. We drove by car toward Malelane and we were to meet our guide Tiny at the gate.

Once we reached Malelani gate we seen the picturesque Leopard Creek Resort as Dawn broke.It was early.5.30 am.and rainy.Tiny briefed us again on some rules and regulations of the Park and we went through the gate.The smell of the air and the sounds of the Wild was so welcoming. Peace and mystical sounds of the early birds in the Kruger National Park.Just too good. We drove to Berg-en-Dal Camp seeing a few elephants and Giraffes along the way.

At Berg-en-Dal we left Azees car, took a stroll around the camp,boarded our Safari vehicle and set off on the journey to our camp Tamboti.about 100 kms to the North at 50 kmph.We estimated arrival at about 4pm.We hopped on the Safari Vehicle and experienced the magic of an open Safari Vehicle in the wild. It was a bit chilly early in the morning with the drizzle but the sight and sounds experienced from above,purely fantastic.

It was about 7:am and our first stop was majulu dam.A watering hall near the bridge where a Ranger was once killed by a leopard as he answered the call of nature under the bridge.So picture this,Enrista coffee which was now becoming the best coffee Ive ever tasted with Choc Chip cookies overlooking the bush and listening to the sounds of the Kruger including a woodpecker along side us.It was the first time I actually ever took notice of the birds of the Kruger in all its color and splendour.And the coffee went down like you cant believe.

As we drove on Tint stopped the vehicle and picked a leaf.He sent each one of us one and told us to split it.We pondered why.Once split and inserted in water you can actually make tea with these.Amazing

We drove on toward a camp near Lugmag dam where we were set to have lunch.En route we seen lots of birds,Elephants again,buffalo,some Kudu and a lazy croc on the banks.And always kept our eyes peeled with the Binoculars.It was fantastic to view game in the open air.

We pit stopped for a break at the famous Skukuza camp which has now developed into a yown over the years.Its always tradition to stop over at Skukuza.You just have to take a stroll to the river and enjoy the view

A little later we got a beautiful site of some Black Rhinos and an elephant that gave us a show by uprooting trees and having a feast.He was really up close and personal. As we approached Lugmag dam Nelson made the ominous mistake by pronouncing it a s LUGG MEGG.The lads tore into him.

Tiny then used his experienced and we seen our first group of Lions.resting on the dirt near the river a km away from where we supposed to have lunch.Its always an amazing feeling of success when you spot Lions in the Kruger Park.Sometimes you could go on for days and not see a thing.

We said wed return after lunch as the lions looked like they were not going anyway.We braced on a dirt road and to our joy about 50 m in was a gorgeous leopard resting on a tree.Lions and Leopard in the space of an hour.We were lucky.The boys were excited.We sighted a Leopard.What a beautiful creature which was Tinys favourite hence the logo of Awesome Kruger Tours.Amazing..Truly Amazing

We reached our Lunch destination.And guess what we were surrounded by about 200 buffalo.Lunch was at a camp where you enter at your own risk.Its not fenced off but fairly safe as there is a lot of movement.But burgers on a skottle braai with 200 buffalo.Can you ask for more.Beautiful site. And the burgers with a Steers rave sauce and nandos peri peri was awesome.

We drove back to LUGG MEGG dam and parked off.Switched off and listened and watched. A hippo and her baby were wallowing in the shallows and our Lions by now made their way nearer to us on the bank.They lazed and we watched.Awesome.

We had to push on as we needed to be at Camp before sunset as we still had to pack and we were staying in tented camps in the Bush. We pressed on en seen the rare Sable and then a beautiful sighting.A male and female Ostrich and their chics. First time Ive ever seen Ostrich babies.And watching the mother scurry over and safeguard them as they straddled away was remarkable.

At about 5pm we reached our camp Tamboti.My first here.Normally camps like Skukuza and Satara etc are built up and are like towns.Tamboti was different.It was luxury tents surrounded by Bush and well the toilets and showers were communal and 100meters away from our two tents.We faced the fence which was like 20 meters away.We off loaded our gear and food and Tiny briefed us about Tamboti and its surroundings.

There was a resident Leopard that was spotted in the camp regularly so we were told not to go walk about at night.The gates of the camp stay open.Scary though lol.

Be careful what you step on and check the corners of the tent.This was mamba and puff adder territory.And check your shoes for Scorpions.All said and done we loaded our gear,checked in and started an early fire.

Now this is the Kruger in all its splendour.The sounds of the night,the eerie Hyena shriek,the Owls and the rustling near the fence.As we sat near the burning fire we shone our spotlight against the fence.We had a visitor.A Hyena stared at us as we waited to place our massive Dinosaur steak and Wors on the Braai. A braai in the wild is tradition and goes down ever so well.

We were stuffed.Had some smokes and our Enrista coffee which was now compulsory.Then Tiny introduced us to a magical ritual.We lined our chairs up,stared at the fence with our coffee and no one was to utter a word for fifteen minutes. That was the rule.

When Faaiz Oz is around me there is never a dull moment. Oz mentioned to me about going on a tour with Awesome Kruger Tours who is also family into the Kruger Bush. Tiny Loonat was to lead the expedition of about 7 guys in an Open Safari Vehicle,stay in a tented camp in the Bush,communal showers and toilets in the bush and of course 3 days of Solid Adventure.At first I was reluctant because of time etc. Faaiz convinced me along with Azee Hansrod from Benoni.That was it.I was in and we began counting down the days.We were to leave on Wednesday.On Tuesday night I met Faiz at the Caltex in Glenhove.We finalised all the details.Our money was paid to Awesome Kruger Tours which meant that all we had to do was get to Malelane.From that point on every inch of the Safari was sorted.On Wednesday morning we headed off to pick our mentor,ranger and guide and owner of Awesome Kruger Tours,Tiny and Naeem up and we loaded the vehicle with the essential groceries,spare tyres,and the gear we would need to make the trip

All loaded we set of to Malalane with the vehicle loaded.Azee and Nelson were to meet us there after midnight,Myseld,Faaiz,Tiny and Naeem set off to Malalane which is an hour or so from Nelspruit. We were excited and made a pact to not discuss Kruger on the way lol.All stories were to be saved for the fire

As we reached Malalane and the Mpumelanga province we were greeted by overcast weather and drizzle.Malalane is about an hour away from Nelspruit.Quite a picturesque town surrounded by Mountains and just two km from Malalane gate and the Kruger National Park. The notorious Leopard Creek is also next to the gate.We met Frank,Tinys Game Ranger,collected the Safari Vehicle, did a cross check and our excitement was building.We finally were going to get to see the Kruger National Park from an open Safari Vehicle.

We packed out and sorted the supplies. Food,Meat,Torches,equipment,cameras,utensils,drinks,cooler boxes and other essential items needed for a Safari specified by Tiny.

We checked into overnight accommodation in Malalane and relaxed and had a few smokes.We were getting there.

We put the Safari vehicle to the test and headed of to Chicken Licken in downtown cbd.The cool wind bellowing on me and Oz in the back.Oh we couldnt wait for Thursday morning.Everybody was excited. The Benoni boys introduced us to Wings,I grabbed a Chicwich sandwich...We had a good supper and headed back.En route my Cap and Oakleys flew off lol, retrieved though by Naeem Abdul who was going to experience the Kruger Park for the very first time.We got back to our lodge,headed off outside, sat with soem smokes and experienced the famous Enrista Coffee for the first time.Now Im a Coffee con nosier but lemme tell you this coffee was something else. Legend has it that this specific coffee tastes this way only in the Kruger.There was more to come.

The chaps wound down and talked a few stories and heard the birds and the frogs in the peaceful Malalane air. It was then that Tiny said....."You have no idea whats in store for you guys in terms of the sounds of the Wild.

OUR ENCOUNTER WITH BUSHMAN BOBBY

While we were messing about in the lodge a rather strange character dressed in a Safari Suit and armed with a rifle and a big beard approached us for a cigarette.Who was this man.He introduced himself as Bushman Bobby,a man who claims to know the Bush better than anybody.Who is Tiny...Tiny is small compared to this guy.As he smoked and heard our stories he always retaliated with a story that was better.We chatted about Scorpions,he recalled of an incident where they were surrounded by large Scorpions and they made a circle and read the Manzil to drive the scorpions away.We spoke of snakes he reckon that he once encountered a Mozambican spitting Cobra and he spat in the Cobras eyes before it could spit at him. This man was remarkable.He counter acted Tiny in every way. He also mentioned that he seen an Impala kill a Lioness at the Kruger Park once.He even out laughed a Hyena,has a bigger trunk than an elephant and his said his beard was once bigger that the Bergandal King.We talked about Mosquitoes and he said that in Zambia once he seen Mosquitoes the size of a dragon fly like in the movie JUMANJI .His one cigarette turned into ten,he took a pack from us and left.The okes were just shocked.Were we going to see the last of Bushman Bobby.

When he left we hit the sack,In the process Azee and Nelson arrived and it was an early morning on Thursday.We were set to wake up at four.

SUNSET CRUISE IN CAPE TOWN

I just had to have a Sunset cruise in Cape Town.Its so picturesque and beautiful.And so we set off. We payed R100 for an hour cruise.Leaves the waterfront and goes up to Sea Point.

The water was beautiful and the Cape wind blowing.As we set off a few of the lads were feeling a bit chilly with the wind.The view as predicted was breathtaking.The Greenpoint stadium,newly constructed in all its splendour and the mountains,Table Mountain,Signal Hill and Lions head magnificent.Along the journey the rocky waves made the boat a bit bumpy but if you were seated it was fine.We reached Sea Point,watched a gorgeous sunset,mingled with fun and jovial passengers,danced on the deck to the sound of the latest club tunes in Cape Town and then headed back.As the Sun set the wind became more strong but the view and splendour that we seen on this sunset cruise was indeed an experience. For readers there are lot of different types of cruises that leave from the waterfront.....one that I would recommend would be the Sunset Champaign cruise.....So when you in Cape Town get to the waterfront at sunset and sail away

The breathtaking mountains of Franshoek in Cape Town and a town thats home to bikers of all kinds on a Sunday Morning.Its also home to vast wine estates in the Cape. So we hopped on the Ferrari F430 and R6 superbike en route to Franshoek in Cape Town.It was early Sunday morning and the drive magnificent.You can only imagine.........
On Route we were just passed by bikers. The drive was beautiful.The Cape Winelands and Stelenbosch mountains in the backdrop...beautiful. When we arrived at Franshoek and a local restuarant greeted us with a stunning breakfast. A fine chocolate omelette's and freshly squeezed orange juice drowned in the background by the drone of superbikes,choppers and Harley Davidsons. A great breakfast,the need for speed and great scenery makes a Breakfast Run in Franshoek a must for any visitor

Soccer City is the FIFA World Cup Stadium that will host the Opening and the Final amongst others during the soccer show piece. This is Johannesburg's finest. Its situated between Soweto and JHB CBD near Nasrec. Not the greatest of surroundings in terms of scenery but the stadium is awesome. And when the Calabash is lit up at night its is nothing short of spectacular.

MOSES MABHIDA STADIUM DURBAN

Everybody was raving about the Moses Mabhida stadium and so Swoosh0018 had to check it out for ourselves. Myself,Mo Mayet and Zak Loonat my cuzzies in Durbs took me under their wing and off we went. The stadium is stunning and the view from the sky cart fantastic. Theres nothing like the smell of the coast and breathtaking scenery. Whats more is that the stadium seems to be very user friendly to the fans.Achers of space around it and the close proximity to the beach front will definatley enhance the atmosphere and party celebrations that will go on. Unlike JHB. But the biggest factor is the weather really....Fans can walk around in shorts and a light rain jacket as opposed to the cold wrath of JHB.

Later we met a oke Bunjee jumping and had a few words about the experience.

On the whole it was a great experience and Durbans definately gonna rock

Also what worries me is the development around the Durban beach front. Will we make it in time.We have to wait and see.
Moses Mabhida will play hosts to some wonderful games with Portugal vs Brazil and the semi final being staged here.

2010 PROJECTS

SOCCER CITY
Soccer City will be South Africa’s biggest stadium for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It will play host to a total of 8 games including 4 Group Games, 1 2nd Round game, 1 Quarterfinal the Opening Ceremony as well as the World Cup final. The Soccer City Stadium has been rebuilt to increase the capacity of the stadium to 95 000. The design of the new stadium is inspired by an African calabash, a traditional African Cooking Pot.
The improvements and construction of the stadium is expected to cost about 1.5 billion Rands.

Furthermore to the stadium itself over 100 million Rand is being spent on the Stadium Precinct around Soccer City Stadium. SAFA House & The Nasrec Expo Centre which will house International Broadcast Centre will be upgraded. Transport including a Rail Station as well as the BRT on the Soweto Highway is also being upgraded to allow for 25 000 passengers per hour to be catered for.

ELLIS PARK STADIUM
Ellis Park is the 2nd Stadium for the city of Johannesburg. It will play host to 5 Group Games, 1 2nd Round game and 1 Quarterfinal. The Upgrades and Improvements made to the Ellis Park Stadium were all completed in time for the FIFA Confederations Cup held in June of this year as Ellis Park was one of the stadiums used for the tournament including the final match. A total of 250 million Rand was spent in upgrading Ellis Park Stadium to c capacity of 62000.

Furthermore a total of 2 billion rand is being spent on the Precinct in and around Ellis Park.

TRAINING VENUES

The Official Training Venues for the City of Johannesburg are the following Stadiums:

Rand Stadium – The Rand Stadium is being revamped to seat 25 000 spectators. The cost of the project is budgeted at R76 Million.
Dobsonville Stadium – Is Undergoing Refurbishments budgeted to 69 million Rand. The stadium will seat 24000 spectators.
Orlando Stadium – Has been completely rebuilt from scratch for the 2010 World Cup.
The cost for the project of the new Stadium is close on R300 Million. It is expected to seat a total of 40 000 spectators.

FAN PARKS

The main &; Official FIFA FAN PARK for the city of Johannesburg will be located at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newton which is a very central location within the city.

Two other Official Public Viewing Areas are also being developed which are Innes-Free Park in Sandton just off the M1 Highway in the North of Johannesburg.

Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown is the designated public viewing area for the South of Johannesburg.

Furthermore to these main sites above other areas targeted include Indoor Venues as the World Cup is taking place during winter. The main indoor public viewing areas targeted are the Dome in Northgate and Gallagher Estate in Midrand.

Over and above the 2 major Transport Projects discussed over the past 2 weeks being the Rwa Vaya and the Gautrain projects, the following are also projects undertaken by the City of Johannesburg for the 2010 World Cup.

iTransie 2 Ellis Park – This Project was successfully use during the FIFA Confederations Cup and serves as the link between the Park & Ride Sites to the Ellis Park Stadium itself.
Oliver Tambo Airport – The main influx of spectators to the City of Johannesburg will most likely be by flight to the OR Tambo International Airport. Transport from the Airport includes a Shuttle Service, Metered Taxi or Car Rentals. The Gautrain Project from the Airport to Sandton will be ready as well by the 2010 World Cup.
Public Transport – Public Transport in and around the city obviously includes the 2 major projects of the Rea Vaya and the Gautrain. Existing Public Transport in and round the city include:
Johannesburg Metro Buses
Mini Bus Taxi’s – which is the Quickest method, but have no set timetable or routes, and safety may be a concern
MetroRail Trains with the Hub being Park Station in Braamfontein
Rental Cars which rely on you finding your own way around

ACCOMODATION
The majority of 4 and 5 star accommodation in Johannesburg is based in the North especially in Sandton and its surrounding areas. The 2010 World Cup will have an increase in demand for accommodation especially in Johannesburg due to a total of 15 games over 2 stadiums taking place in the city including the World Cup Final itself. The projected demand for accommodation for the 2010 World Cup in Johannesburg is estimated in the table below.

From the above you will notice that Johannesburg has a shortfall of over 50 000 beds come 2010 World Cup.

Among the plans to accommodate the visitors of the 2010 World Cup, the City of Johannesburg is planning to establish a range of Fan Camps around the city as well as trying to obtain domestic homes and apartments from local residents.

GAUTRAIN AND 2010 STADIUMS

GAUTRAIN

The Gautrain is a New Transport Project undertaken by South Africa of a Rapid Rail System travelling between OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg & Tshwane (Pretoria). The New Rapid Rail is expected to reach maximum speeds of 160 to 180 km/h. It is being developed to decrease traffic congestion between Johannesburg and Pretoria on both the M1 and N1. The Gautrain is targeting existing motorists in Gauteng who travel between Johannesburg and Pretoria. It is also targeting all passengers travelling to and from OR Tambo International.

The two main routes planned for the Gautrain is the South-North Route starting from Park Station JHB going to Hatfield Station in Pretoria. The East-West Route will start in Sandton going via Marlboro towards the OR Tambo International Airport. The East West Route which runs from Oliver Tambo International Airport via Rhodesfield & Marlboro Stations to Sandton Station is expected to be ready for use by the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the full Gautrain Route is expected tgo be running by March 2011. KEY FEATURES

There are 10 stations covering an 80 km route. The Stations include

Park Station, Rosebank, Sandton, Marlboro, Midrand, Centurion & Hatfield on The South to North Line and Sandton, Marlboro, Rhodefield and Oliver Tambo International Airport on the East to West Line including an Express Non-Stop Service from Sandton to Oliver Tambo International Airport expected to be about 15 minutes. Marlboro will serve as the link station between the 2 different Gautrain Routes. The total time between Park Station and Hatfield on the North-South Route will be 42 minutes including all stops. There will be 24 separate 4-car trains. The 2 forward cars on the Airport Rail Service will have fewer seats but more space for baggage storage. After the initial phase trains will be increased to 8-car train sets. Trains will be operated every 12 minutes during peak periods at each station and will be stopped for 45 seconds at each station. There will be tight security to ensure a safe journey for all passengers.

All stations will have Buses for feeder distribution linked to Gautrain times at each station for passengers to reach their exact destination. Park & Ride Facilities will also be provided at each station for up to 10000 cars. Gautrain’s Dedicated Bus Link with a fleet of 125 gold luxury buses will assist passengers using the Gautrain to enjoy a door to door service. The New Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit system will also work in collaboration with the Gautrain.

Electronic Smart Card tickets which are easily accessible at self help vending machines, will allow passengers to use for Train Trips, as well as Feeder Bus Services and Parking Bays. The pricing for using the Gautrain will be finalised by December 15 2009.

Rea Vaya is new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that is to be implemented in the City of Johannesburg. It is designed to alleviate the major traffic problems that Johannesburg is currently facing.

The BRT system has dedicated lanes created in the centre of the roads for all its routes throughout Johannesburg. Smaller feeder buses will bring people from outer areas not on the main trunk routes. Buses will run every 3 minutes during peak time and every 10 minutes in off peak times. The pricing for the Reya Vaya travel is as follows:

Yellow Ticket = R 8-00 per ticket – Full Trip any amount of transfers for up to 2 hours.

Red Ticket = R 5-00 per ticket for Trunk Routes Only

Blue Ticket = R 3-00 per ticket for an Inner-City Trip

The Reya Vaya is being developed in 3 phases:

Phase 1A to be completed in 2009 (Currently in Implementation)

Phase 1A which is currently in implementation has 20 Stations and currently spans 25.5 kms as shown below.

Bus times during Phase 1A currently in implementation are as follows:

Phase 1 B to completed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup
Phase 1B to be completed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup will span 86.6 kms and have 102 stations.

Full Phase 1 to be completed in 2013
The Full Phase 1 Rea Vaya Bus Rapid System that will be developed by 2013 will have a total of 150 stations and span over 122kms.

FULL PHASE 1 ROUTES
The entire Phase 1 of the Reya Vaya will have 7 routes as displayed below.
Yellow Route: From Lenasia to Sunninghill
Grey Route: From Jabulani to Alexander
Red Route: From Baragwanath to Ellis Park
Maroon Route: From Orlando to Sandton
Green Route: From the CBD to Randburg
Blue Route: From Dobsonville to Eastgate
Orange Route: From Sandton to Alexander

The Reya Vaya stations being developed are for the ease of use of its passengers. Below is an artists impression of the station:

There will also terminals at the end of each route which will be the final station where buses can turn around and drivers can change shifts. Feeder services will also link terminals to other outer areas not on the trunk routes.

Depots are larger buildings for buses and drivers only and not for use to passengers. Depots will be used for parking for buses as well as maintenance.

There are 2 types of buses currently offered by Rea Vaya:

TRUNK BUSES

The Trunk Bus which has a capacity of 112 passengers which will travel on the dedicated lane trunk routes and have doors only on the right side as they will pick up passengers from the Rea Vaya Stations on the Trunk Route.

COMPLEMENTARY BUSES

Complementary Buses will be able to pick passengers on both the Trunk Route and Reya Vaya Stations as well as on the kerbside. The buses have a capacity of 75 passengers and will have doors on the left side in order to pick up passengers on the kerbside as well as Reya Vaya Stations.

A little longer drives from Cape Town include attractions such as Cape Point, Franschoek, Hermanus, Paarl & the Cape Winelands.

Within Cape Town there are many historic landmarks and other sites including the Bo-Kaap, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Shopping at the V & A Waterfront.

Robben Island is one of South Africa’s most historical and significant attractions. It was the prison that housed Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners. A Boat Ride across to the Island for a tour is a must.

Cape Town will play host to 8 games in total at the 2010 FIFA World Cup which include 5 Group Games, 1 Round of 16 Game, 1 Quarterfinal as well as a Semi-Final.

2010 PROJECTS
GREEN POINT STADIUM
The new Green Point Stadium being constructed for the City of Cape Town is expected to seat 68 000 spectators. It is very close to both the V & A Waterfront as well as the Cape Town Railway Station. The construction of the new stadium is expected to cost in the Region of 2.9 billion Rands.

FIFA FAN PARK, FAN MILE & PEDESTRIANISED CBDThe official FIFA Fan Park for Cape Town is to be located at the Grand Parade infront of City Hall in the Cape Town CBD.

It is planned for Cape Town to close an are of their CBD during World Cup Match-Days in the City to be an area solely for Pedestrians. The Fan Park and Pedestrianised CBD will be linked to the Green Point Stadium by the FAN Mile on Somerset Road. The FAN Mile is expected to cater for a further 5000 spectatotrs.

There are 3 further public viewing sites targeted for Cape Town at:
Sport Fields adjacent to Athlon Stadium
Bellville Velodrome
Swartklip

These public viewing areas are expected to cater for 10 000 – 35 000 spectators on any given match-day of the entire World Cup.

The Cape Town International Airport will be the main hub for Spectators, Teams, Dignitaries etc. to arrive in the City of Cape Town.

Due to the lack of an efficient and effective transport system to handle the Demands of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, A Scheduled Event Transport Systems required to cater for the World Cup.

The system is based on a Park n Ride Network that consists of a number of networks connected via rail, bus or taxi routes. This is based on a classic hub-and-spoke system resulting in easier use and greater efficiency.

The 2 primary transport hubs around which the system is designed are the Cape Town International Airport & the CBD’s Main Transport Hub. The main services required to operate on this system are:

The major projects undertaken by Cape Town for the FIFA 2010 World Cup include the following:

Improvements to Cape Town International Airports
Upgrading of Various Road linking Airport and the CBD – Airport City Link
Metro Bus Park n Ride Facilities
Upgrading of various roads and corridors on the N1 Highway
Upgrading of the Bus Depots within the CBD
Massive upgrade of Rail System & Fleet

The total expected cost for the Transport Upgrades planned for the City of Cape Town is close to 8 billion Rands, however the approved funding granted by the PTIS to the City of Cape Town is 1.6 billion Rands.

The majority of the available accommodation for the city of Cape Town for the 2010 FIFA World Cup is situated within a 60km radius of the Green Point Stadium. The majority of these are in and around the Cape Town CBD as well as along the Coast line. A total of 75% of the beds are concentrated in this area. In December TravelX visited Sun City. Sun City is an equisite Casino & holiday resort three hours from Johannesburg. TravelX loves Sun City because its breathtaking, adventurous and an amazing place to relax and enjoy a fantastic few days.

Sun City resides in the Northern Province , about 45 minutes away from Rustenburg. It is surrounded by mountains and forest. Now Sun City is a huge resort that over the years has built itself up with four Hotels, two golf courses and plenty of entertainment.

Lets go a step at a time. As you enter Sun City you are greeted by dense forest and mountains. You pass the Crocodile Park Sanctuary which is great for kids and adults alike as you get to see some of South Africa's notorious Wildlife. Once you get to the parking lot where all visitors park, Your adventure with Sun City begins on foot and by the energetic shuttle service running from the one end to the other. And then once you enter your hotel its Entertainment, Relaxing, Water sports, Golf or Gambling. Sun City is just too beautiful and breathtaking.

All the hotels lie adjacent to one another and if one walks on the pathway from the Cabanas to the Lost City they can see all the hotels lying parallel to the breathtaking Gary Player Country Club and Golf Course. Now the TravelX picture Gallery will tell the tale. Here is a summary of each hotel

The Cabanas are rooms that open up to the Sun City lake and gardens. Its great for kids. And the lake is where visitors can enjoy Water sports action like para sailing, water skiing and jet skies, paddle boats and a lot more. You need a day just for the Water sports

The Sun City Main hotel resides in between the Cascades and the Cabanas. It has a huge Casino at reception. Its comfortable, luxurious and the Main hotel Swimming Pool is a great place to hang out, swim and relax.

Its also walking distance to one of South Africa's beautiful golfing paradises, The Gary Player Country Club and Golf Course. This hotel also has world class restaurants

One of my favourite hotels at Sun City is the Cascades. Firstly the architecture of the hotel is different, the pool area is just too beautiful, surrounded by grotto's,waterfalls and jungle. Its extra-ordinary. Also all rooms face the tropical rain Forest that is built around the Cascades.Visitors can enjoy and walk through this Forest, stop and pause on the swing bridge and revel in the awe,sensation and sounds of the birds. The rooms are also luxurious and comfortable

And Finally the PALACE OR LOST CITY HOTEL is perhaps one of the finest and fairy tale like hotels in the World. Its luxury and the architecture is symbolic of being housed in an African kingdom. The Wildlife themed buildings and decor makes the LOST CITY a must for any tourist. It is also the most expensive and luxurious accommodation that Sun City has to offer. As TravelX maintains that once you are inside the Lost City, You feel as if you in an enchanted Kingdom surrounded by Wildlife that almost seems like it will come out of stone and become Reality. In the Lost City you will find the Vally of the Waves. This is a beautiful water park which has a wave pool and can generate waves of up to 1.8 meters. You will feel as if you are on a Tropical beach. There are also pools, Tube rides and daring and exhilarating slides.
Its a water park that compliments the splendour of its host, The Palace or Lost City

And Lastly there is the Entertainment area or super bowl which leads the Cascades into the Lost City. The Entertainment are has Cinemas, food courts and equisite restaurants. It also has a Casino, a few Shops and Coffee Bars and an Entertainment area for kids with games.

Sun City is also great for conferences.The Lost City Golf Course is also breathtaking and a must for any golfer. But to conclude this is definitely one of TravelX's favourites. Anybody that visits South Africa must go to Sun City, especially if you are fazed by the fast pace and razzle dazzle of Johannesburg. It is after all a Stones Throw Away

Situated off Corlette Drive and a Stones throw away from Sandton and the popular Melrose Arch district the Bullring is a cauldron of atmosphere and it never fails to entertain. It also forms part of the Wanderers Sports Club and is home to the Gauteng Cricket Board and Highveld Strikers. For pure Cricket atmosphere there's no better place than then Wanderers. When it comes to shopping and hanging out in an environment with great atmosphere then Sandton City Shopping Center in the heart of Sandton is definitely the place. With two levels of shops which include the likes of massive chain stores like Edgars,Stuttafords,Woolworths,Truworths and a wide variety of other stores for Shopping convenience Sandton City is definitely the place to be. What also makes Sandton City unique is that it is one of the many malls in the North that boasts a wide range of exclusives deigner brands and boutiques. Louie Vittone, Ed Hardy,Boss,Lacoste, Jennie Button,Cross Trainer,Guess,Levis, Soviet,Haagen Daaz,Cinnebon ......Sandton City has it all.

Sandton City Mall also has a food court that is enough to satisfy the hungry shopper. Restaurants and Sit downs like Ocean basket,Wimpy,McDonalds,Kuai,KFC Cape Town Fish Market give patrons many options.

Sandton City Mall is also the venue where many business men and woman execute meetings and business dealings. Its confectionery shops and coffee shops provide the perfect setting and environment.
The mall is also linked to the two leading hotels ,The Michelangelo Towers and Sandton Sun where TravelX will go into more detail.

In terms of just soaking the atmosphere of Sandton City,perhaps the Sandton Square is the ideal place to just wind down and relax. Its a masive courtyard surrounded by amazing restaurants like Montego Bay,Giredelis,Pappas on the Square,Baglios and the Butcher Grill. Its also often the hosts of big entertainment and sporting events where arenas are easily constructed in the square. But the most important thing that marks the Sandton Square is the massive bronzed Statue of former SA president and World Icon Nelson Mandela.

If you want atmosphere,great music and a true cosmopolitan crowd than News Cafe on Fredman Drive is certainly the place to be. There's no better introduction to the weekend and JHB'S night life than winding down with some awesome cocktails at News Cafe

News Cafe is an established bistro and bar all around South Africa.And what can I say,every News Cafe has its own atmosphere and character and people.

AUTHENTIC LEBANESE FOOD AT BEIRUT RESTAURANT

On Saturday evening we were driving around Sandton contemplating where to have a quick bite. We ended up in Benmore in Sandton and ended up at Beirut.An authentic Lebanese restaurant with great Lebanese Food and great atmosphere.

In the sitting area outside the restaurant patrons enjoyed their dinner and drinks and indulged in smoking the Sheesha pipe, a middle eastern tradition that always sets the mood in any social gathering.

To TravelXtreme this was as Lebanese as you can possibly get and we indulged in another traditional Gourmet of the middle east, The T Shwarma. (See pic on left). The Shwarma is usually chicken or beef,cooked on a stake and wrapped in a pita with salad and sauce. And no better place to have an authentic Shwarma then Beirut. The food was exquisite and washed down with a Pepsi just as I used to do in the Middle East on my travels.
To supplement the meal we indulged in French Fries,Beirut Style.

Patrons can also experience the exotic Deserts and other authentic Delicacies.And to relax the rest of the evening the Shisha Pipe and its exotic tobacco flavours is always the perfect end to a great evening.
But TravelX definitely recommends Beirut in Sandton if you want to experience Lebanese food and culture.

SANDTON-JHBS PLAYGROUND OF THE NORTH

Sandton is a wonderful suburb in the North of Johannesburg and its a place I should say that's frequented by me often. Sandton is a thriving business hub and many top companies in South Africa have their offices out in the North.

So during the day it is a thriving business district where office atmosphere is surrounded by beautiful buildings, apartment complexes,Shopping Centres and Office Parks and bistros.

The residential areas of Sandton also boast exquisite homes and real estate. And with the elevated status of the area and its people Sandton has by far gained the reputation of one of Johannesburg's most upmarket-suburbs.

Sandton is most famous for the popular tourist attraction and shopping Mecca Sandton City. Sandton City consists of probably one of the finest and largest Shopping Centres in Johannesburg, The Sandton Towers Hotel and Convention Centre which plays hosts to world renowned events and expos showcasing the worlds leading brands and the Michaelangelo Hotel.

THE RADISSON HOTEL-JOHANNESBURG

This weekend, Travel X visited the newly constructed Radisson Hotel in Sandton. There were alot of raving reviews from people and forums and I had to check it out and take some pictures. I found the Radisson in JHB to be really stunning. The urban decor and wonderful environment adds to the Radissons appeal. The bar area is stunning and one can entice themselves to a few cocktails in the splendour and comfort of the Radisson.
What appealed to me though was dining in the restaurant. With the restaurant and reception area on the 13th floor, the view is amazing and from what I hear the food delicious.
Definately a venue TravelX will book into anytime

BREATHTAKING BEAUTY 3 HOURS FROM JHB

To me personally one of the most breathtaking provinces is the Mpumalanga Province and that's the home of the Kruger National Park. The Kruger National Park is one of the largest Game Reserves in South Africa and is almost 2 million hectares. But more on the Park as the travelXStreme journey unfolds.

Nelspruit

The core of the Mpumalanga province is based around Nelspruit. Nelspruit is a thriving town full of business opportunities and has slowly built a reputation that enabled it to be one of the host cities for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

And Nelspruit is deemed as the starting point toward the journey that takes you through to the Kruger National park.
The Scenery on route is made up of spectacular mountain passes, dense vegetation and forests and streams,rivers and Waterfalls.

The route that I always follow from Nelspruit starts at the town of Sabie Sabie. But we fill feature each town as we go on. Sabie Sabie is Beautiful and is synonymous for its pancakes and beautiful holiday lodging and accommodation. What adds to this town is the gorgeous drive and with Mpumalangas weather a far cry away from that of JHB in terms of cold makes this province frequently visited by tourists and backpackers. Its extremely hot in Summer and visitors are encouraged to take their Malaria Pills and precaution to the heat and humidity.

Sabie Sabie and the surrounding areas are also known for their dried fruit and fresh produce farm stalls, scattered all over the Mpumalanga.

From Sabie Sabie my journey took me to some jaw dropping waterfalls and view points and to Pilgrims Rest, A historical town that resembles the early centuries in South Africa where history defined a town. If you have to drive in to Pilgrims Rest you will swear you are back in the past. The Architecture just makes you feel like you have set yourself in a time machine. Lunch at Pilgrims Rest is a must. Along the route I stopped over at Potholes for a swim. Potholes are natural springs and swimming in a pool that nature has conjured up is indeed an experience. Potholes are also an ideal picnic spot for a traditional South African Braai(barbeque). Jeez I can go on and on in this post but I will cover each place later.

To conclude the Mpumalanga Province is a stones throw away from Paradise and tourists from around the World flock here because of the Wildlife and with it being the gateway to the Kruger National park

WHERE THE SUN NEVER SETS

After Cape Town, another great coastal city of South Africa is Durban, known as the place where the Sun never Sets. Durban is approximately 6 hours journey by car from Johannesburg and and hour away by plane.

Durban is also rich with culture, home of the great Zulu Warrior Shaka and the Zulu Kingdom and its great Beach resort activities. Durban's vast coast line extends from the North Coast to the South Coast.And all along the way are great beaches and breath taking scenery.

Perhaps the most vibrant part of Durban is Durban Town itself. We will cover the rest of the areas and places in Durban as the TravelXtreme journey unfolds.

Durban City centre is vibrant and business keeps on flowing just as any other major city in South Africa. But its the coastline that attracts many holiday makers. In one long stretch of beach holiday makers are exposed to viby restaurants and coffee shops, renowned hotels and wonderful sandy beaches. Durban beaches also provide awesome surfing and bathing.
Durban's weather is hot and humid and well let me put it to you this way if you have long hair, take plenty of gel and a hairbrush. Also being from JHB and making plenty trips to Durban in July for the great surfing festival GUNSTON 500 as it was formerly known it was always a pleasure to leave the harsh Johannesburg Winter and wear just shorts and a rain jacket in Durban.

Durban also boasts the splendid Holiday destination of UMCHLANGA ROCKS. This is a town on the North Coast of Durban frequented by Holiday makers. Its wonderful beaches and atmosphere and holiday bungalows and Hotels compliment the Total Holiday Atmosphere.

The South of Durbans coastline is equally breathtaking and home to another thriving Holiday hot spot called Margate. This town always proves to be the idealistic getaway for many holiday makers. And near Margate is the Casino resort of Wild Coast Sun, where tourists and holiday makers can sit on the tables, and enjoy the great outdoors of the South Coast.

And now totally new to Durban is the newly constructed Ushaka Marine Land. Visitors can swim and snorkel with fish and its an ultimate educational experience for the old and young.

Perhaps one of the most picturesque and I should say the most Beautiful Place in South Africa has to be Cape Town. Cape Town has it all from breathtaking scenery to amazing people. Its a cultural hub and a place of the Arts and is populated with tourists. There is just too much too do in Cape Town and always too little time.

Cape Town is a Great Town

Cape Towns surrounding areas known as the winelands are home to some of the most famous and breathtaking Vineyards. They stretch across the open plains and are shadowed by the mountains. In Summer its breathtaking and equally so in Winter as the snow laden Mountain tops are enough to grace the picture frame of any wall in any home.

Cape Town itself is a thriving city and is known as the MOTHER CITY. And from every angle you can view the breathtaking Table Mountain. Its the no1 tourist attraction in Cape Town and from the top of Table Mountain you can literally see Cape Town. But more on that as the travelXtreme journey unfolds.

Cape Town City is famous for its thriving Nightlife, Bistros and bars and nightclubs spring to action on the notorious Long and Loop Streets. Its a boulevard where diverse cultures and aces PARTY if you may call it till the Sun comes up. Sea Point is perhaps one of the main areas in the city and it is Sea Point with all its lodges and eateries and hotels that lead you into the most jaw dropping scenery that Cape Town has to offer.

As you make your way to Camps Bay and Cliffton Beaches all the way to Hout Bay and Chapmans peak all you see is gorgeous houses and Mountains on your left hand side and on the right hand side ,just beaches, bathers and of course the raw beauty of the Atlantic Ocean. Pictures tell the tale here and we will delve deeper into these landmarks.
As you make your way to Camps Bay, Cafe Capris and all the other restaurants and bistros are populated with Beach goers, tourists and Supermodels, not to mention the multi million rand houses that overlook the ocean and the super cars and bikes.

After Camps Bay is the picturesque Llundudno Bay and the Fishing village of Hout Bay where tourists can enjoy some of the finest seafood on show at the Popular Mariners Wharf restaurant.

And then theres the scenic drive to Chapmans Peak and my writing alone cannot describe the beauty of this drive.

Then theres also the other coastal route from Cape Town to the naval base Simons Town. Along this route you travel toward Sea Point and the Indian Ocean. Its also laden with treasures and breathtaking beaches. And when you get to SEA POINT and climb up a massive flight of stairs you are greeted by the two oceans meeting, the Indian and Atlantic

In terms of History, the famous Robben Island is just off the coast of Cape Town. This island was home to former South African president Nelson Mandela

JOHANNESBURG-THE CITY THAT NEVER STOPS

Well, being from JHB I obviously have to start this blog about the City that never stops. Now remember all these posts are seen as my interpretations of the amazing places South Africa has to offer. Ah JHB, perceived by many as the business and social district of Gauteng, one of the major provinces of South Africa. JHB as its known it short is a thriving city where business opportunities. During the day its always buzzing non stop. Commuters are travelling all the time, traffic congestion's are plentiful, especially with the developments around Gauteng for the 2010 World Cup. The final will be held in Johannesburg and South Africa is bracing itself for the biggest Sporting showdown in the history of this country. But more on that as we progress through the travelXtreme journey. Johannesburg is made up of many towns, neighbourhoods and districts. During the evenings certain areas turn into social playgrounds for all walks of life. Areas like Fourways, Sandton, Rosebank, Randburg, Fordsburg and Soweto become playgrounds and each area adds to the cultural splendour and extreme diversity that South Africa has to offer.

Johannesburg also boasts exciting adventures and excursions for tourists. Shopping, wining and dining at amazing restaurants and outdoor activities await tourists.

Many people though unfortunately are afraid of the crime that has embedded itself with JHB, but like any other city tourists should stick to the guidelines by tour operators.

The City Centre itself becomes quiet after dusk and many South Africans spend their time in upmarket suburbs like Sandton and Fourways. Alternatively many spend their evenings in there respective areas where they feel comfortable.

During the weekends Johannesburg probably has the best Nightlife in certain areas. With almost every leading International and local food chain and restaurant at its disposal. Amazing Night Clubs, bars, bistros and restaurants are certainly a huge contributing factor to JHB's mesmerising nightlife....And not to mention that South Africa boasts some of the most beautiful women in the World.

Johannesburg is also home to the biggest airport in South Africa, The O R TAMBO International Airport. But this is just an overview of Johannesburg. Obviously as we progress through the journey we will access every place from my viewpoint. JHB'S population is made up primarily of black, white, Indians and Coloureds, which adds to its diversity

The JHB skyline also boasts some of the most luxurious and famous Hotels and resorts. It most certainly makes any tourist welcome

But JHB in a nutshell is known as the city of Gold because of its history and the gold and diamonds that the city has to offer. and being a resident of JHB I can surely say that JHB rocks and its where the money is
